The South Perth Cricket Club hosts an annual cricket match that remembers the passing of two former players at a young age from illness. Michael Roe and Chris Visscher both represented the club with distinction over a number of years and tragically died in the prime of their lives.

The ‘South Perth Ashes’ match features current and former players from the South Perth cricket club representing Australia and England teams. This year’s match also included former Australian captain Kim Hughes and former England players Adam Hollioake and Alan Mullally.

The success of this year’s match was a marked increase on previous years, with 500 people in attendance, and various attractions such as auctions, bouncy castle, speed gun, face painting and more. The event raised $7,000 for this year’s beneficiary.

Each year the Visscher-Roe Memorial match raises funds for a worthy cause. In recent years, the beneficiaries have been a Sri Lankan girl who had an eye operation, a young girl from Perth who had organ operations and a three year old girl who has cerebral palsy, the funds helping pay for therapies, equipment and education.
